Loneliness & Connection in Winona

Engage Winona’s Lived Experience Leaders program and one of their participants, Lisdamys Morera Gonzalez, alongside Engage Winona’s Intern Abbie Pierce and four participants of Engage Winona’s Community Changemaker Lab—Makenzie Olson, Alexandra Meldahl, Madelyn Molohon, and Hailie Cady—launched a survey to understand and address loneliness in the Winona area.

The hope of this survey and project is to get a sense of:

  • Loneliness & connection: Assess how lonely or connected Winonans feel, both before COVID-19 and during this pandemic

  • What could help: Identify ways that Winonans could feel more connected to neighbors and the community

The survey was opened on February 22nd, 2021 and closed on March 15th, 2021. More than 250 unique individuals completed the survey. The responses helped us gather a better idea of where the community is in regards to loneliness, and will help shape community programs that will work toward an inclusive and healthy community.
